Kelly Hayes (Clarinet)

Kelly Hayes, a native of San Diego, California, received her Bachelor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from Boston University. While in Boston, she performed with the BU Symphony Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble. Kelly is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance at Arizona State University. Kelly performs with the Tempe Symphony Orchestra and the ASU Wind Symphony, and has recently been invited to participate in the Belgian Clarinet Academy in Ostend, Belgium during the summer of 2001. Kelly's principal teachers include Robert Spring, Ian Greitzer (Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra), Monica Kaenzig (LA Philharmonic), and Tom Martin (Boston Symphony).

BRASS

Scott Hanson (Euphonium, Trombone, Tuba)

Scott received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Louisiana State University and his Master of Music degree from Arizona State University. He has studied with Daniel Perantoni, Larry Campbell and David Pack. While touring with Mr. Jack Daniel's Original Silver Cornet Band for 10 years, Scott performed solo euphonium and trombone. A former Faculty Associate at ASU, Scott has performed with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, the Fiesta Brass, and Phoenix Little Theatre.

Nathan Stark (French Horn)

Nathan is pursuing a Master of Music degree, and is a teaching assistant, at Arizona State University. As a native of Idaho, Nathan earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Boise State University, where he played principal horn in the University Orchestra and the University Symphonic Winds. He was also a soloist with the University Orchestra as a winner of the concerto-aria competition. As a member of the Les Bois Brass Quintet, Nathan performed in master classes with the Center City Brass and the American Brass Quintet. Nathan has been teaching at the Arizona Community School of Music since September of 2001.

PERCUSSION

Arnoldo Villela Ruiz Jr.

Arnold attended Arizona State University as a percussion performance major. During his studies, an active outside performance schedule turned into a full-time freelance schedule. Arnold has performed with the Sun City Symphony, the Mesa Symphony, and the Phoenix Festival Orchestra with the Moody Blues. Currently Arnold is performing with the steel drum band Panacea, which has two recordings released, and the dance band Encore. In the recording studio he has played on several advertising sound tracks.

PIANO

Julie Min

Julie is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Piano Performance. Julie performed at the Junior Bach Festival and placed second in the Kohl Mansion Competition while in California. She has studied with Jeanne Triano, Joann Stenberg, John Russell, and Dr. Terry Spiller. Julie has accompanied school choirs throughout high school and college. She was an assistant music director for her high schools musicals, teaching voice parts and accompanying rehearsals. While in college she performed with the symphonic band as will as accompanying voice, violin, saxophone, clarinet, and various other instruments. Julie taught at a private piano studio for three years in California, with recitals held each year.

VOICE

Neil E. Millican

Neil is a graduate of Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Music in Voice. During his studies he was the recipient of the Miriam L. Wolf scholarship for voice and a recipient of various awards from the National Association of Teachers of Singing. His performance credits include Papageno in the Magic Flute, Spinalocia in Gianni Schicci, Hortensius in La fille du Regiment, Eugene in Grease, Potiphar in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and as a soloist in "See the USA with Aims" in Graz, Austria. Neil has sung as a soloist in various oratorio works, most recently in Handel's Samson, the Messiah, Saint Saen's Christmas Oratorio, and in Mozart's Requiem. Neil has also participated in various summer music programs such as "The systematic vocal seminar" with Dr. Ricard Miller, and was a student at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria

JAZZ

Paul Brewer

Paul Brewer, a native of Phoenix, started teaching private saxophone at the age of 20 and realized that Music Education was the realm that he would like to spend the rest of his musical career. He then transferred to Northern Arizona University from Mesa Community College, were he earned his Bachelor of Music Education, while performing on every saxophone chair with the award winning NAU Jazz I. In this ensemble, Mr. Brewer had the opportunity to perform with such great musicians as Peter Erskine, Ed Shaughnessy, Wallace Roney, and John Abercrombie just to name a few. Due to his achievements he was nominated for the most prestigious award on NAU campus, the Louie Award. Upon Graduation, Mr. Brewer started working in the public school system as a high school band director. He has been the band director at Paradise Valley, and Barry Goldwater High Schools. Paul Brewer is currently adjunct faculty at Mesa Community College and is working on his Master’s degree in Music Education with emphasis in Jazz Studies at Arizona State University where he also is the Teaching Assistant for the Jazz Studies Department.
